My mother was a great jam maker, usually using basic recipes from war time publications. Every year we made strawberry jam with mixed success. It was better with a bit of rhubarb in it which we grew in the garden in abundance. Then in September it was time for bramble jelly. We used to go onto the moors near the Rock Inn and gather enormous quantities of these tiny little berries. But, they kept us in jam and more to my taste, the jam tarts. In January it was time to make the marmalade for the year and back to summer with Damson and Plum. These were the days when fruit was only available in season.
